Two altar slabs from the Augustinian Black Abbey, dated to prior to 1700, are said to be in the small chapels off the south transept of the Franciscan Friary. They are architectural fragments, not a building, but they carry the shape of a lost abbey into a later friary. The stones may have been moved when the Black Abbey closed, reused in worship rather than discarded. If so, the chapels still hold a piece of the older house, waiting beneath their newer walls.

According to Urban Survey of County Limerick (Bradley et. al. 1989, 31) 'two altar slabs from this abbey (i.e. the Augustinian Black Abbey LI021-032006-) which can probably be dated to prior to 1700, are said to be in the small chapels off the south transept of the Franciscan Friary' (LI021-032007-).
