Yr Aran rises to approximately 310 metres and is part of the rolling hills of the Clwydian Range, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Its geology consists mainly of Silurian greywacke and slate, and the surrounding landscape has historical significance as a defended hilltop settlement area in the Iron Age.
