The Richard Montgomery was a British armed transport ship that sank in the River Thames on 18 August 1799 after colliding with the HMS *Fowey*. The vessel was carrying 150 tons of gunpowder, which remained on board for over 200 years, making it one of the most significant and hazardous shipwrecks in the UK.
