Woodwalton Castle

Woodwalton Castle remains as a circular earthwork on a natural hillock at the northern edge of Huntingdonshire, its moat and central mound still visible after centuries of uncertainty about who first shaped them. The de Bolbec family, Ramsey Abbey, or restless men from The Anarchy may have built it, while fishponds beside the site suggest it later became a calm residence rather than a frontier weapon. Standing two kilometres north of the village, the castle may have watched over both places, with St Andrew's Church set between them like a compromise reached by people who needed one church for two lives.
