Windscale Pile 1 chimney is the remains of a nuclear reactor cooling chimney from the Windscale Piles, the first British nuclear reactors, built during World War II for plutonium production. It is historically significant as part of the site of the 1957 Windscale fire, the first major nuclear accident, which had major implications for nuclear safety and radiation policy.
