What is recorded here

A windmill is shown as operational on 1839 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and it is situated on a rise in an undulating landscape. This is a conical tower of three or four storeys (H c. 8m) with all the machinery intact, although it has probably been reduced in height and is not the original structure. This windmill is known locally to have been built in 1883 and functioned with a diesel engine until 1964. There is a complete corn drying kiln attached.

Explorer Tom Mill in Hardygregan is spinning its head because it thinks the wind owes it money. Legend says two lads bet a pint that it could grind flour while sleeping, and they’re still arguing about the winnings. Don’t wake it up or it’ll start charging for every breeze that goes past.

Explorer Tom Mountpleasant House in Mountpleasant Or Tagunnan took about ten thousand cups of tea to build, or so the story goes. John Harvey erected it in the 1700s, reusing an older shell underneath. Toast your own cup to it from the road and think it’s fancy!

Explorer Tom Churchyard in Mountpleasant or Tagunnan is famous for the time a ghost tried to book a taxi and got rejected because he didn't have enough coins. It’s just a grassy enclosure with a bank, pretending to be far more dramatic than it actually is. Bring a notebook and write the bit I made up.

Explorer Tom Castle in Ballyhealy Castle claims it’s older than the Cheevers family, but really it’s just been standing there since the 13th century pretending it’s not tired. William Chevre signed a charter nearby, so maybe he built it while waiting for the ink to dry. Toast it with a cup of tea and move on to the next one.

Font in BallyconnickFont · 4.9 mi

Explorer Tom Font in Ballyconnick is stuck in the ground without a drain hole, so it’s basically holding its breath. A cow once tried to buy it for a shiny coin, but the farmer said no. Make a wish, it's had centuries of practice.
