This commemorative plaque records: Marlow Suspension Bridge by William Tierney Clark FRS MICE 1783-1852 opened in September 1832. This bridge and the Szechenji Chain Bridge linking Buela and Pest across the River Dabube are the only surviving suspension bridges by William Tierney Clark

William Tierney Clark was a prominent British civil engineer known for his pioneering work on suspension bridges; he is historically important for designing both the Marlow Suspension Bridge and the Széchenyi Chain Bridge in Budapest, which remain significant engineering achievements from the early 19th century.
