William Kennedy blue plaque

Blue plaque

What is recorded here

Montagu Arms in County Armagh still carries a blue plaque naming William Kennedy, a pipemaker born in 1768. The dates stop at a question mark, but the craft remains clear: he made pipes for humans to smoke or breathe through, depending on the era and region. Ulster History Circle recorded the fact, yet the missing years leave room for imagination. Perhaps he worked a small bench near the tavern, shaping brass or wood until the joints held. A plaque does not need a death date when the work already entered the world.
