This blue commemorative plaque records: The Ostrich or Spital Inn c.1660-1860. William Cobbett (1763-1835) political writer, stayed here during April 1830 and wrote part of his Rural Rides Recorded plaque organisation: Jim Foster.
William Cobbett was a prominent political writer and agrarian activist who traveled extensively throughout England, documenting rural life and criticizing government policies; he stayed at The Ostrich Inn in April 1830 where he wrote portions of his influential work "Rural Rides."
