This multicoloured commemorative plaque records: Deacon Brodie
William Brodie was a respected cabinetmaker and deacon of the Incorporation of Wrights and Masons in Edinburgh by day, but also led a double life as a burglar by night; his story inspired Robert Louis Stevenson's novel "Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde."
