Whitechurch Graveyard

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Whitechurch Graveyard holds the oldest stone of John Cooper, who crossed from Scotland in 1606 and died at ninety in 1608, beside younger graves marked by the blood of United Irishmen killed at Newtownards on Pike Sunday. The church itself keeps a headstone for Arthur Lusks, who sailed around the world with George Anson in 1753. A place small enough to fit inside one village has collected seawater, rebellion and distance, as if mortality itself could be measured in miles or weeks.
Whitechurch Graveyard is a graveyard in County Down, Ireland.
