Weston Lodge

Detached L-plan four-bay two-storey house, built c.1800, with four-bay return to rear (west), formerly in use as rectory. Recent lean-to porch to side (south) elevation and single-storey hipped roofed canted bay to side (north). Half-hipped and pitched slate roofs with rendered eaves courses, chimneystacks and cast-iron rainwater goods. Rendered walls throughout with slate hanging to first floor of side (south) elevation. Camber-headed window openings with limestone sills throughout, having two-over-two and four-over four pane timber sliding sash windows, replacement timber casement windows to first floor. Twelve-over-eight pane timber sliding sash window flanked by nine-over-six pane timber sliding sash sidelights to canted bay. Round-headed door opening with raised moulded render surround to interior of recent porch, having replacement double-leaf glazed timber doors and fanlight. Enclosed to south by limestone plinth with cast-iron railings.

This substantial house, once owned by the Boyle family, the Earls of Shannon, was used as a rectory in the late 1840's. Located on the corner of Emmet Square, formerly known as Shannon Square, this building has retained much of its original form and character, through the retention of important historic features including a canted-bay, sash windows and slate hanging.
