This blue commemorative plaque records: Wesley Methodist Chapel 1863-1984 This tower is part of the Chapel that replaced the one built here in 1811. Redevelopment enabled the members to join with the Congregational & Presbyterian people of the United Reformed Church in 1984 and build and open, in Mount Street, Trinity Church in 1988.
Wesley Methodist Chapel served as a significant religious and community center from 1863 to 1984, reflecting the historical importance of Methodism in local worship and social activism before its congregation merged with other denominations.
