Weir in Slanecastle Demesne, County Meath

What is recorded here

Weir in Slanecastle Demesne diverted the Boyne towards a mill race on the far side of Slane Bridge. That’s an Irish favour in stone: “Just under the bridge there”, and before you know it, you’re running a mill.

This eighteenth-century weir is an interesting reminder of the industrial heritage of Slane and was an integral part of Slane Mill. Located on the upstream side of Slane bridge, this weir was constructed to divert water into the mill race on the other side of Slane Bridge. Constructed beside the lock on the canal which runs to the south of the River Boyne, it forms part of an interesting group of eighteenth-century industrial related structures.
