In Tooreen, Edmund Hickie owned a broken eel weir beside a castle stump and orchard, marking the land as a working river estate rather than a dead ruin. The precise spot has vanished, but the survey preserves the shape of the loss: a man, a river, and a trap for silver fish now reduced to memory.

The precise location of a medieval eel weir in the townland of Tooreen has not been identified. The 1654-56 Civil Survey of Limerick recorded that Edmund Hickie of Tooreen, an Irish Papist, was the owner of 'six greate accres with two houses, the stump of a castle [LI030-129----] one Eele weare out of repaire, and an orchard' (Simington 1938, 140).
