Weir stands on the west bank of the River Fergus beside Lissan West, a thirty-two metre fish trap dated to Cal. BC 794-556. Two rows of uprights lean eastwards into the water, bound by woven horizontal rods and curved into an S-shape at the northern end. The structure still holds its line against the current, waiting for fish the way it has since before records began.
On the W bank of the River Fergus adjacent to Lissan West townland. Described by O’Sullivan (2010, 54) as follows: The structure consists of two rows of uprights, less than 1m apart, which run together for 32m. the structure is linear and curves at the northern end to an S-shape. Horizontal posts, varying in size, are woven around the uprights. Two small wattle panels protrude from the mud to the west of the site. The uprights ranged in diameter from 3cm to 10cm, with the majority measuring about 5cm in diameter. The uprights were at a 45 degree angle, leaning eastwards towards the water. This is probably as a result of erosion of the bank and the gradual movement of the silts down the slope to the water’s edge, as a number of upright posts to the south west, further back from the water erosion front, were vertical. The horizontal rods were 2 to 3cm in diameter and were up to 3m long. These were woven around the uprights. The site was dated to Cal. BC 794-556. Erosion at this site is not as severe as at the Boarland Rock complex. (O'Sullivan 2010, 54, Appendix 1, Islandmagrath)
