What is recorded here

Nine wooden posts still stick from the west bank of the Fergus estuary beside Lissan West, a broken fish trap from the post-medieval tide. They may have been pulled aside when a larger weir went downstream, which would explain their uneven line. The gap between posts becomes a sieve for memory: salmon, eels or small silver fish caught in the ebbing water, and people waiting with baskets or patience.

Situated on the west bank of the Fergus estuary, adjacent to Lissan West townland. A short discontinuous alignment (L 6m) of at least 9 vertical wooden posts (diam. 0.08-0.1m), aligned NE-SW. This possibly represents a post-medieval stake weir, designed to catch fish on the ebbing tide. It may have been taken apart to facilitate the larger structure downstream (CL041-181002-) which would account for its irregular construction.
