Weir

Weir, fish

What is recorded here

A land grant to Patrick Fox in 1607 included 'a fishery weir, called the weir of Snawowlie upon the Shennen; parcel of the estate of Rory McAwlie, late of Aghnegore, attainted; value 8s' (Cal. pat. rolls Ire., Jas I, 115). Its precise location has not been identified. The present fish weir over the river just to the S of Termonbarry Bridge may have been built on or close to it.
