Weir is a U-shaped fish trap buried in Shannon estuary clays near Moyhill, County Clare. Its wattle panel and roundwood posts still mark the northern end, waiting for tide and memory to complete what the river interrupted.
On the N bank of the Shannon estuary adjacent to Moyhill townland. Described by O’Sullivan (2001, 301) as a possibly medieval ‘basket buried in ancient estuarine clays exposed in the E side of creek on lower foreshore, c. 450m W of Bush Island, c. 80m NE of Shannon estuary channel LWM. Basket is of a broad U-shape, oriented NNE-SSW, 3.9m in exposed width and 3.6m in exposed length. A post-and-wattle panel and four large roundwood posts are buried in clays at NNE end of basket.
