Ballyhack was always a fishing village of Dunbrody Abbey (WX039-030001-), and at the Suppression in 1541 nine fishermen occupied nine tenements belonging to the abbey. They had two boats, but fishing weirs are not specifically mentioned (Hore 1900-11, vol. 3, 126-7). The Civil Survey (1654-5) records a ruined weir at Ballyhack, then owned by John Itchingham (Simington 1953, 194). Its precise location is not known.
