What is recorded here
Wedge tomb in Curragraigue (glanarought By.) stands on a SW-facing slope above the Sheen River valley, its chamber narrowing from 1.8m to 1.1m beneath a single 1.8m roofstone. The southern sidestone leans as if it slipped during a storm or was nudged by hands long gone. Two loose slabs lie downslope, perhaps fallen casing or discarded tools of the builders. In that quiet pasture, the tomb still points east like a marker for people who measured death in stone and distance.
In rough pasture, on a SW-facing slope overlooking the valley of the Sheen River. A wedge-shaped chamber (L 2.5m; Wth 1.8m at the WSW end; Wth 1.1m at the ENE end) aligned ENE-WSW and closed by a backstone at ENE. A leaning sidestone at S appears to have moved out of its original position. There is a single sidestone at N. The tomb is covered by a single roofstone (1.8m x 1.1m; T 0.15m). Two large slabs lying downslope to the SW may be associated with the tomb.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Volume I: South-West Kerry' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
