Fingal's Table sits collapsed on a narrow mountain ledge, its long roof stone broken and buried beneath soil. The surviving side stones still tilt slightly eastward, preserving the shape of a chamber that once held dead bodies and memory. People may have gathered there to feed the living or honour the dead, but the mountain has taken most of the story back.

Cromlech: Located on a level platform on the upper slopes of the spur of Farraniaragh mountain, this small tomb is largely collapsed. The S side of its gallery is represented by two side-stones, the upper edges of which slope downwards to E. Two small buttress or packing stones occur outside these. A single side-stone at N lies prostrate. The roof-stone, now collapsed, measures 2.7m long (de Valera and Ó Nuallain 1982, 67). Windele, in 1848, referred to this site as 'Board'een' (Bord Eoghain Fhinn) or 'Fingal's Table' (RIA MS 12 C 11). Alternative names applied to it are 'The Table' and Carraig Shíomais, and it is unclear whether the names Cloch an Arruig and Clochán an Fhiolair are connected with the monument (Ó Ciobháin 1984a, 41, 46) The above description is derived from A. Wedge tomb, dating to the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age (c. 2500–1000 BCE). Its location on a mountain spur suggests ritual or ceremonial significance, typical of wedge tombs in the Irish landscape.
