Wedge tomb in Cloontreem

In rough mountain pasture, on level patch of ground sheltered by rock outcrop to E, on lower S-facing slope of Maulin Hill, towards W end of Beara peninsula. Ruined gallery (L c. 2.4m; Wth 1.25m at SW) aligned NE-SW;represented by two erect side stones to SE, one upright and one fallen sidestone to NW. Two displaced roof stones partially cover NE end. Wedge tomb, dating to the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age (c. 2500–1000 BC). Its alignment and location suggest ritual or funerary significance, typical of tombs in the Beara peninsula associated with early farming communities.
