What is recorded here
Barrinagh holds a narrow stone chamber where two northern rocks lean inward like listeners and one southern slab guards the entrance. The chamber stretches two and a half metres through reclaimed pasture, preserving a shape small enough for one person to imagine inside. Its surrounding mound has disappeared, leaving the wedge bare on a level landscape where the land has been taken back for grass and memory.
On a level landscape of reclaimed pasture. Described (de Valera and Ó Nualláin 1972, 36-7) as two orthostats leaning inwards on the N side, and one on the S side of a chamber (dims 2.5m E-W; 1m N-S at E to 1.25m N-S at W). There were traces of a mound around it, but it has been removed since 1980 (SMR file).

See linked document with details from Ruaidhrí de Valera and Seán Ó Nualláin, Survey of the Megalithic Tombs of Ireland. Volume III. Counties Galway, Roscommon, Leitrim, Longford, Westmeath, Laoighis, Offaly, Kildare, Cavan. (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1972).
Wedge tomb, dating to the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age (c. 2500–1000 BCE). Its chamber dimensions and inward-leaning orthostats are characteristic of wedge tombs found in Atlantic Ireland, reflecting regional funerary practices of the period.
This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
