Cast-iron water hydrant, erected c.1870, having fluted shaft, banded cap, spout and acorn finial. Set at an intersection along roadside.
The detail of the casting, in particular the acorn finial, adds artistic interest to this otherwise functional object making a valuable contribution to Minane Bridge. Increasingly rare now, water hydrants such as this one are a reminder of the importance of communal water sources in the nineteenth century.
