Freestanding cast-iron water hydrant, installed c.1880, with bucket stand. Circular-profile fluted shaft with moulded base, fluted domed cap having acorn finial, and plain spout.
This hydrant exhibits well-executed yet restrained detailing which enlivens its utilitarian form. It is an important reminder of town life before the widespread provision of piped water supply.
