What is recorded here
Burial Gd (Disused) is a forgotten grave field in County Cork, Ireland, now buried beneath the garden of a private house. It appeared on maps in 1904, vanished by 1938, and stopped being a place people could visit. The dead may still lie under flower beds, unaware that living hands have stopped remembering them.
Not shown on 1842 OS 6-inch map; named 'Burial Gd', to SW of Union Workhouse, on 1904 OS 6-inch map; marked 'disused' and incorporated into garden on 1938 OS 6-inch map. In SW corner of garden of private house. Access to site not gained.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
