Freestanding cast-iron water pump, installed c.1870, having banded cylindrical shaft, fluted head and domed cap with pointed finial. Banded spout with plain bucket grip and curved pumping handle. Set within enclosing concrete block walls with steps, along roadside.

Pumps such as these played an important functional role in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, providing a communal water source in the absence of mains supply. This pump displays excellent artistic detailing in the fluted cap with finial, the banded shaft and curved pump handle.
