Freestanding cast-iron water hydrant, installed c.1870, comprising fluted cylindrical shaft with moulded neck and base, fluted cap with acorn finial. Broken riveted pail stand to base of shaft.
This interesting roadside feature at Cleggan is a simple functional feature that formerly gave the local community a supply of water. It is enhanced by the clever use of simple decoration such as fluting and an acorn finial.
