Freestanding cast-iron water hydrant, erected c. 1880. Fluted shaft with conical fluted cap, spout, handle and acorn finial.
This hydrant exhibits attractive, well executed but restrained detailing which enlivens the otherwise functional form. The acorn finial motif is of particular artistic interest. The hydrant is an important reminder of town life before the widespread provision of piped water supply.
