Water mill

Medieval chapel (LI012-068----) of 'Kilkerill' [Cill Choireallaigh/Kilcurley] shown standing beside a cluster of dwellings on the 1657 Down Survey map of Kenry Barony (NLI, MS 718). In 1595 Queen Elizabeth granted Henry Wallop 'half a carucate in Kylcoille alias Kilkrile with a mill (LI012-0150-)' (Nicholls 1994, 261). The precise location of this mill within the townland of Kilcurly has not been identified. The River Maigue forms the E boundary of Kilcurly and it is possible that the mill may have been located on the W bank of the section of the River Maigue which flows through the townland of Kilcurly.
