Water mill

Civil survey of Tipperary (1654-56) mentions 'one Mill, ye river of Geagh [Nenagh] runing through it' in 'Ballynaclohy' which in 1640 was under the proprietorship of 'Rory kenedy of Ballynaclohy Donogh Kenedy of the same. Irish Papists' (Simington 1934, vol.2, 259). A watermill is also marked in Ballynaclogh on the Down Survey (1655-6) map. The mill had been tentatively located to a corn mill marked on both 1st and 2nd editions of OSi 6-inch maps. Field inspection established that this is a ruined nineteenth-century mill with no evidence of an earlier mill. The seventeenth-century/possible medieval mill remains unlocated within the townland.
