Water mill

In Kilmagar townland, in the mid-19th century, 'an oak trough, fourteen feet long, and hollowed from a single tree, had been dug up. The trough was about three feet in diameter at the upper and larger end, and gradually diminished to about four inches at its lower extremity; it was covered by a rough-hewn plank of oak, and, when found, was caulked with moss. As the declivity of the hill is here considerable, the use of this trough was, probably, to convey the water to the spring to turn an overshot wheel' (Anon. 1850-51, 158).
