Water mill

In 1803 Townsend (1810, 272-4) investigated a mill near Castlefreke where he described 'a large cistern or tank, composing a regular square of seventy-two feet'. It was lined with oak and there was an opening on oneside 'as if for a sluice'. A footnote refers to another similar structure nearby. Site not located. Millstone (CO143-036---) possibly associated with these mills. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
