Sergeant Walter Harrold of the Royal Sussex Regiment was awarded the Military Medal for his bravery; he was killed during the Battle of the Somme at Richebourg on September 3, 1916, and is honored alongside other fallen soldiers from Worthing at Thiepval Memorial.
