Wallshield Crag is a sea cliff composed primarily of Carboniferous sandstone, formed around 300 to 320 million years ago through sedimentary deposition in ancient river and delta systems. It is notable for its exposure of resistant rock layers that have withstood coastal erosion, offering a local example of the geological history of northern England.
