Wall monument in Muckross

Against the internal N wall of the choir, to the W of the sacristy doorway, in Muckross Abbey (KE066-081001-). The limestone armorial stone (H c. 1.68m; Wth 0.68m; T 0.08m) is rectangular in plan with chamfered upper right and left-hand corners. The stone rests on a chamfered cut-limestone base and is secured to the wall. The stone is split horizontally across the centre and has been reassembled. The upper half is repaired with cement along the top and sides. A coat-of-arms occurs on the upper section of the slab. It is enclosed within a square frame whose upper corners are chamfered. The lower section of the coat-of-arms consists of a shield which is crossed by two diagonal bands; the upper section consists of a symmetrical design.
