Wall monument in Kiltartan

This wall monument consists of a canopied altar tomb which is located towards the E end of the N wall of the medieval church (GA122-104----). The front of the altar is divided into five panels capped by ogee-headed arches. The moulded arch soaring above it remains intact. A modern crucifix occupies the niche. Harbison (2005, 23) has dated this to the 15th century and suggests that the arches may once have been painted. A partially worked boulder now perched on the altar is reputed to be that tied to St Colman's mother when she was thrown into the Kiltartan River (Fahey 1904, 218-19).
