What is recorded here
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records U 965 (possibly) as Submarine (period Unassigned)-(1945). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
U 965 was a German U-boat that was scuttled in May 1945 off the coast of Scotland as part of Operation Deadlight, the Allied plan to dispose of surrendered U-boats. No lives were lost, and the vessel holds historical significance as a reminder of the end of the U-boat threat in World War II.
The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
