What is recorded here

Two stone circles still mark Ballyhacket Toberclaw in County Derry, surviving from the prehistoric era when people shaped open land into visible form. They may have gathered neighbours for feast, fight, warning or worship, while the stones watched every change in weather and memory. That much is missing, but the circles remain clear enough to imagine the noise, fear or joy they once held.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as TWO STONE CIRCLES. Recorded period: PREHISTORIC. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

Probably dating to the Late Neolithic or Bronze Age, these stone circles may have had ceremonial, astronomical, or communal functions. Local folklore or specific meanings associated with the site are not currently recorded.
