Top o' Selside rises to approximately 275 metres and is part of the low-lying, rolling landscape of the Lake District's northern fringes. It lies within the traditional county of Westmorland, an area characterised by Carboniferous limestone and glacial deposits, and its name suggests a local landmark used historically for wayfinding or boundary recognition.
