What is recorded here

Kildare Market House holds a two-metre limestone slab carved in the thirteenth century for a woman whose name has worn away. She lies flat beneath a later inscription and an eight-armed cross hidden on the underside, waiting to be discovered by whoever lifts or turns the stone. The tomb left Castledillon Upper with the church and graveyard behind it, carrying her identity into a public building where curiosity can still touch her marker.

The present location of a 13th century limestone slab (dims. L 2.14m; Wth 0.36m; T 0.12m) with an incised figure of a woman, an inscription (now incomplete), which was added in the 16th century and an eight-armed cross with Fleur-de-lis terminals in relief (on the underside), dated to the second half of the 13th century, which is now in Kildare Market House. (JKAS 1972, 136-40; Hunt 1974, 154). Its original location is recorded as being at a church (KD014-016----) and graveyard (KD014-016001-) in Castledillon Upper townland - see KD014-016002-.
