What is recorded here

In the forgotten town of Newtown Jerpoint, a carved stone slab still lies beside the ruined church of St Nicholas. Legend claims it marks the burial place of Saint Nicholas of Myra, yet it more likely belongs to a Cistercian priest from nearby Jerpoint Abbey. The town once thrived around a bridge on the River Nore, with taverns, mills and a busy court, but decline and loss of its crossing faded it from memory. The tomb survived being moved, tree damage and centuries of neglect, preserving a glimpse of a medieval world that once hummed with life.
