The Tolpuddle Martyrs were six Dorset agricultural labourers, including George Loveless and James Brine, who were wrongfully convicted in 1834 for forming a trade union and swearing oaths to support fair wages. Their trial and transportation to Australia sparked widespread public outrage and became a pivotal moment in the history of the labour movement in the United Kingdom.
