‘Tobernaglora’

Adjacent to the S bank of a stream in undulating pastureland. Named ‘Tobernaglora’ in Gothic script on the 1838 and 1947 editions of the 6-inch OS maps. On inspection all that was visible was a well lined with a cement pipe, which was covered over with a sheet of metal and weighed down with a large boulder. Tobernaglora is traditionally associated with Saint Glória, a lesser-known early Irish saint, and was historically visited for its supposed curative properties, particularly for ailments of the eyes and skin. The site's name, derived from the Irish "Tobar na Glóirí," suggests a connection to light or radiance, possibly reflecting local beliefs in the well's healing glow or spiritual clarity.
