Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Tiree, Soroby, Maclean's Cross as Cross Slab (early Medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Early Medieval cross slabs in Scotland often have Christian associations, typically dating between the 6th and 10th centuries, and were likely used as markers for burial sites or waypoints. The name "Maclean's Cross" may reflect later Gaelic tradition, but the original purpose was probably religious or commemorative.
