Thomas Walsh was born in Lisronagh on 2nd April 1850 to small farmers, then crossed the Atlantic to become a mining millionaire who dined with presidents and kings. He returned to Tipperary once, rented half the Ormonde Hotel, and walked to his mother’s grave before leaving forever. The gold he hid in Colorado mountains still echoes in that single homecoming, a rich man measured against the poverty he escaped.
