Thomas-Louis Connolly

Thomas-Louis Connolly was born in County Cork, Ireland in 1814, the place where a quick boy learned three languages before turning sixteen and leaving for a life of service elsewhere. His father died young, so his mother raised him and his sister, perhaps instilling the resilience that carried him through prison chaplaincy in Dublin and across the Atlantic to Nova Scotia. Cork gave the world a Capuchin priest who would become Archbishop of Halifax, but it kept its own share of the story: a household marked by loss, a mother’s endurance, and a mind hungry enough to master Greek, Latin, and French before manhood.
