Thomas Guppy (1797–1882) was a prominent British civil and marine engineer who served as a director of the Great Western Railway and designed the 1000 HP engine for the SS Great Britain in 1843. He is also historically connected to engineering projects in Naples and is remembered for the Guppy fish, named after his nephew in 1866.
