Thistlegorm (namesake)

Wreck

What is recorded here

The *Thistlegorm* was a British steam collier launched in 1897 and sunk in 1917 during World War I by a German U-boat off the coast of Malta. It was carrying a cargo of coal, which was lost, though no lives were lost as the ship was empty at the time of its sinking. The wreck is now a well-known dive site and historically significant as one of the earliest submerged wrecks to be explored.
